Kristy Lee Cook Leaves American Idol 2008

It's now down to the Top 6 in American Idol 2008.
Last night, and as expected, one of the girls was voted off the show and it was Oregonian Kristy Lee Cook!
Kristy and two other girls were in the danger zone yesterday ... they got the lowest number of votes for their not so good performances of Mariah Carey's songs the night before.
Kristy stood there, side by side with Syesha Mercado and Brooke White.
After her elimination, Kristy Lee playfully sat on the judges' table right in front of Simon Cowell and serenaded him with her performance of Mariah's song 'Forever'.

Next week, the Top 6 will battle it out with Phantom of the Opera composer Andrew Lloyd Webber! That's gotta be hard!

Race to the White House

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 06:18:40 PDT
If you weren’t paying attention, then you didn’t notice all the racism. See, we’re not a post racism society*. Part of the reason is that everyone sits around with their racist decoder rings looking for racism. Even when it may or may not be there. But accusations of racism these days are rather like car alarms. You hear both so much that you don’t even pay attention to the noise anymore. A few examples: If you call Barack Chirac Obama an elitist, you’re a racist! Seriously? Bill Hobbs did a

HOW LONG WILL A GOOD IDEA STAY GOOD…?

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 06:20:19 PDT
As Kunmi Oluleye learned, being a supplier to Wal-Mart is hard. Still, the idea of having your product on the shelves of the world’s largest retailer, is so attractive that thousands queued for a chance to even get to second base. From the News & Observer: Farmers, manufacturers and food processors from across North Carolina gathered at the State Fairgrounds on Wednesday with one mission: to woo Wal-Mart. The Daily Newarker: No One Cheering Over James’ Downfall

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 06:20:19 PDT
The Daily Newarker: No One Cheering Over James’ Downfall Now James has a problem: he’s been called out for his cronyism and high-flying by a U.S. attorney with a five-year undefeated record. He’s in freefall, and no one from the political establishment is going to catch him on his way to the Icarian Sea below. A piece I wrote about the James indictment last July—I was wrong: some people are definitely cheering in the Twittersphere.

Unhealthy Habits Has Alzheimer's Link

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 06:20:45 PDT
By unhealthy habits it meant drinking and smoking. © cell105 As reported recently by American researchers, heavy drinkers and smokers develop Alzheimer's disease seven years earlier than those who do not smoke and drink. The researchers said their findings showed heavy drinking and smoking were two of the most important preventable risk factors fo

A penny or two or three for more thoughts on NASCARs drug policy

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 06:20:51 PDT
Charlotte Observer colleague David Poole's wording on NASCAR's drug policy, in the "My 2 Cents" section of his column on ThatsRacin.com, is about as close to an indictment as I've seen on this touchy subject - so far at least. Here's a little of what he said: "It's clear NASCAR doesn't want the responsibility for establishing and enforcing a fair testing policy. "It also is clear NASCAR officials really don't want to know some of the answers a real drug-testing policy might give them." Here

The Race for 2008: Debateable Assessment

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 06:20:59 PDT
The Race for 2008: Debateable Assessment Writing in Denver’s Rocky Mountain News, Mike Littwin (an Obama supporter) added some tough love to his long night: “But, let’s face it, this debate was not about policy. So now we get to the real issue: What was this debate about? It was about Obama standing up under the fire. One of his aides told me after the debate that this wasn’t a trial by fire. “This,” he said, “was the real fire.” Curtain Call Posted by Bob Zuber on 04/17/2008 @ 5:20:59 A

Open Threadito

Thu, 17 Apr 2008 06:21:11 PDT
Open Threadito O, IF ONLY blogging paid me enough to spend the hours writing here I'd love to. It does not. And yet, there are so many things to talk about between us, and that help inform in such important ways. Burger King, for one thing, who sees "no legal way" to pay the slaves workers who pick their tomatos even one penny a pound more than they do now. Or women radio activists being murdered in Oaxaca. Once there was belief and heart and action...and now there is dead air there. Or
